Rihanna is using her star power to give back to hardworking individuals. In 2012 she began the Clara Lionel Foundation as a special tribute to her grandparents Clara & Lionel Braithwaite. The Barbadian signer has officially launched a global scholarship program that will be rewarding students from many different countries who attend college in the Unites States.

More details below.

"To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor. Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities, and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this."

Students who are from Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, Guyana & Riri's hometown of Barbados will all be eligible to receive the rewarding award if they have first earned their acceptance. They will have to excepted "into a bachelor's degree program at an accredited four year college or university in the United States for the 2016-2017 year" says USA Today.

The application for our Global Scholarship Program is now live! Apply here: https://t.co/jXtd7OieF8

The scholarship that will be offered will vary between $5,000 to 50,000 & it'll be based on a set criteria that the committee has put together for those selected students. The committee will also help to choose the 50 students & the winners will be revealed sometime in August.

Based on the information provided by the foundation on there website, the awards can be renewed. "Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelors degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) each semester."
