CARMEN CARRERA SUPPORTS DRAG RACE'S MONICA BEVERLY HILLZ & UPLIFTS THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY

Last night the second episode of Rupaul's Drag Race aired & while viewers that they would be getting their weekly dose of fierceness & shade throwing they got a little more. During the shows elimination segment the season 5 contestant Monica Beverly Hillz made a shocking announcement that she was a transgendered woman. The announcement shocked the other queens & they automatically showed their love & support for her. While Monica celebrated her new found freedom many people among social media wondered why the shows host Rupaul would still allow a transgendered woman compete in a drag queen competition. Former drag race diva Carmen Carrera who revealed that she was also transgender some time after her stint on the show showed support for Hillz in a statement via her Facebook account.

Read the statement after the cut.

"I'm getting flooded with messages about Monica Beverly Hillz revealing that she, in fact, is transitioning and how RuPaul is still "allowing" her to compete... Let me fill you in on something... Transwomen have competed in drag pageants and performed in drag shows for YEARS. People need to trying to draw boundaries on what drag is or isn't. Drag is an art, an exaggeration of femininity, usually with the twist that the performer was born male. Period. It's an art that is a part of our LGBT community.. And if you didn't know the "T" in LGBT stands for transgender. Xoxo"

"There are no rules to drag, that's why it's so empowering. Stop trying to change that. Embrace the fierceness, it'll change your life =P"
